What is Microfiber & How does it work?
Microfiber is, basically, a synthetic fabric made up of (yep, you guessed it) tiny fibers.
You may recognize the term “microfiber”, because it’s used in many athletic products for its great wicking capabilities…but do you really know how it works? The answer is threefold…
Because “micro” fibers are significantly smaller than a standard fiber, a fabric woven of them has significantly more surface area for moisture to travel along
The fibers themselves actually repel moisture (instead of absorbing and holding it)
Moisture molecules, by nature, want to move toward air where they can evaporate
When these three factors are in play together, you have a quick evacuation route for moisture your body produces while hiking, cycling, running…well, you get the picture.
Not all microfibers are created equal. The quality of the fiber, and how it’s woven together, is important if you care to have a garment that retains its stretch, is durable, and is easy to care for. We’ve used the highest quality microfiber in Buff Headwear since its inception in 1991, using our own circular knitting process. We still make everything in Spain (where it all started), ensuring the highest quality end product.
